You have never seen one like it before, and you’ll in all likelyhood never see another one like  it pass you anytime  in  the  future  either.  No not Porsche’s Speed  Yellow,  as this rare PTS (Paint To Sample) Porsche C4S is believed to be a ‘One  Of  One’.  Created  at  the  whim  of  it’s  original  buyer  who  clearly  wanted  Porsche  to  build  him something that no one else,  at that time,  had ever seen before.  


Factory painted  in  Phoenix Yellow  Metallic  a  shade  that  had  found  favor with  BMW  buyers  when  it  was  first introduced on the  E46/M3  cars at  the Geneva Auto  Show In  the  late  90’s.  I  think that  you  will agree  that  the  gentleman  that  order  this  PTS  car simply  got  it  so  right,  as  the  voluptuous  lines  of  the  widebody  Porsche  996  C4S  make  a  perfect  canvas  for  such  a  eye catching shade.  This  delicious  PTS  car  is  truly  vibrant  and  depending  on  the  light  switches  from  greenish  yellow  to  gold  to  flame  yellow  while  glistens  like  few  other  911s  did,  from  what  was a predominantly grey  era. Nearly 50% of the 996 era cars left the factory in Grey tones with another 30% of 996 production being Black... so overall there are simply not a lot of diverse colours to choose from in the 996 market today.


This Unicorn is undeniably  just  as  special  today  as  it  was  when  it  was  originally ordered near 25 years ago!


This  is  a  car  that  continues to stand  out in any crowd,  and  demands  the  attention of   onlooker be they enthusiasts or not.  'Loving  What  You  Drive'  is  all  the  more  pleasurable when those  around  you  inadvertently  drop  their  jaws and  start  to  drool  as  you  drive  by!


Just how special is  a  Paint  to Sample 911…  For  2025  onward all of  the regular 911 models, regardless of body style, the standard Paint to Sample option costs $14,190, USD to  $31,070. USD.  A  good chuck  of  pocket  change!


Given  that  the  Porsche  ‘996’  Carrera  4S  was  birthed  directly out  of  the  Porsche  996 Turbo  mold  it  shares many  of  the  Turbo’s alluring  attributes  including  the  voluptuous  wide  body, along  with  the  Turbo’s suspension, brakes, powertrain  and  AWD  platform…  minus,  of course, the  Turbo’s unique  Twin  Turbo Mezger  3.6L  Engine.  Instead, although  sharing  the  still  potent, beautifully sonorous,  Naturally  Aspirated  320hp/3.6L  996 Carrera  Engine  with  the  rest  of  the  996  lineup,  the  C4S remains significantly  different  and  far  more  special  than any base 996/911 will ever be.   


It  must  be  noted  that  the  Carrera  4S  Coupe made  up  only  10%  of the  175,000  996  era production, being  manufactured for  just  a  short  four  year  period… 2002-2005.  In  fact  C4S  Coupe  production  numbers virtually  matched  those  of  the  996 Turbo  Coupes,  so  certainly this was never a  high  volume car.


All and  all  a  significant  step  up  from  the  base  996/911s  both visually  and  dynamically, and as such these  cars, not  unlike  their stablemates the  996  Turbos,  have  pulled away  from  the  pack with values demonstrating  the  continued  interest  that these unique cars garner  from  enthusiasts  internationally.


Global demand for this unique Porsche model  continues  to  grow, and we see no reason for that to change in the years to come as market interest in the thrill inducing,  driving experience that these cars provide would appear to be creating an unquenchable thirst  for  ownership  amongst knowing enthusiasts.  Each  and every  996  4S  is  special, but  this  extremely  rare  PTS  4S  Coupe  in  Phoenix Yellow  Metallic  is  with  little  doubt  a  touch  more  special  than  the  rest.

Stunning & Far beyond your average porsche 996/c4s

Yes, my friends and followers I am very well aware that a number of you will think of this as blasphemous , but don’t walk away from this Porsche Tip before hearing me out, please take a moment to think it all through. 


I am fully cognizant of the fact that many a traditional Porsche Enthusiast may discredit a Tiptronic Equipped 911 from any era, and in turn virtually ignore this or any other so equipped opportunity. That said the vast majority of those that hate the Tip have never driven one, or worse, never learned how to drive them right. 


This car's Tiptronic S Transmission is shared with the Porsche 996 Turbo cars, these transmissions have proven themselves to both strong and highly reliable, and it provides 5  Forward Gears and 250+ Programs that ensure the car is in the right gear at the right moment. Plus full manual shift control Up or Down a gear is at your fingertips right on the steering wheel. 


This 996 Coupe, with the exception of the Auto/Manual Tiptronic ‘S’ Transmission, is virtually identical to any other 996/4S and it offers its driver virtually all the performance, engagement, handling, sound profile and thrills that the Manual cars provide, with yes, a very small, shall I suggest rather insignificant, amount of initial acceleration. That said, not many of you enthusiasts are looking to use your burgeoning Porsche Classic to win at the local Drag Races, or even  compete in your neighbourhood stoplight derby,  but we all want a sports car that performs, and the 996, Tip or Manual, does just that.

The Perfect Near Classic Porsche For Today's World?


First off you have to understand that you will in the end pay an additional $10k - $15K CAD plus for the privilege of purchasing a comparable ‘Manual’ 996/4S. No matter how you look at it, that is a heck of a lot of money for a transmission.


The Tip ‘S’ just like the now ubiquitous PDK (Auto/Manual) of the modern era 911s provides near everything that the Manual Transmission cars offer, but they also make the hassles of driving in the Real World, with its constant congestion, simply go away. Today the PDK equipped 911, now vastly outsell the Manual 911. 


In fact although the save the manual folks may scream ‘NO’… manual transmission cars are swiftly disappearing from the ‘New’ Sports Car Marketplace. Given another 10 years or so, as current owners start to age out, those formerly desirable Manual classics may go the route of the Dodo Bird as most driver’s will not have any manual experience and in fact not wish to own one, nor know how to drive such a car.

As you may or may not be aware, we at SportsCarLocate have been chasing Porsche cars on behalf of our clients for the past 18 years now, and through those years we have successfully located 911s from every era, including many from the 996 years. 


Throughout those many years we have seen the market for Porsche’s cars ebb and flow especially when talking the 996 Era 911s. For far too long the 996/911s carried the weight of discrimination from within the Porsche community, as although the 996 cars were one of Porsche's greatest sales successes with 175,000 996/911 cars built and sold, right from the start these were chastised time and again. 


Of course Porsche enthusiasts have a long tradition of hating what's new, and instead loving those bygone era cars.  This occurred when Porsche dropped the 356 for the new 911, and with virtually each iteration of the Air Cooled 911s including the now highly coveted 964 and 993 cars. Hence when Porsche introduced the first water cooled 911, the 996 the model started off on a very shaky footing. 


It has taken quite some time for enthusiasts worldwide to come to the realization that the 911 from the 996 era (warts and all) were and are great and highly competent Porsche 911s. Yes, different than the Porsches that came before it, and not all that the later era 911s have come to be, but still cars that remain very worthy of the 911 moniker!


Look deeper and you’ll learn that virtually every Porsche Era and Model has Warts!


When taking 996 road cars two models quickly come to the top of the heap... the 996 Turbo and it's naturally aspirated look alike cousin the Carrera 4S. Each quite different and yet so much the same with both being dramatically sensual, uniquely magical, and melodious motorcars. These are sports cars that do just about everything well... yes, a touch of a understatement here, as these cars were, in their day, 'World-Class' and with the right driver at the wheel, they were capable of embarrassing near anything on the road. 


This unique breed of Carrera, for most knowing Porsche focused enthusiasts, sits at the high water mark of driver engagement, and they are treasured for their unique combination of a mystical analogue feel combined with modern era technology  that evoke a visceral response unlike much else on the road from their era!


Yes, clearly you will find many cars in the modern era that are significantly faster than these near 20+ year old Porsche 996s, but as modern era performance numbers head into the stratosphere, for many enthusiasts the numbers and those extreme performance cars have become less and less relevant in today's world.

Having said that, our current market analysis would indicate that as priced at $60,000. CAD, Paul has priced his car fairly as this car is well into or beyond the Excellent Condition Range,  while being an impossible to match, highly desirable PTS Porsche, a Factory Original ‘One Of One’ Example.

This car is on offer from it's private owner Paul K., a longtime client and fellow Porsche enthusiast.  We have known Paul since 2014 when we worked with him to ship and import this Carrera 4S after his purchase of the car from the U.S.A. 


He has over the years been a great site follower, often sharing his thoughts on our online presence and the Porsche Marketplace.


This is Paul's first and only Porsche, a car that he had dreamed of owning for a significant period of time as Paul is a mature adult. Interestingly although Paul resides in Canada he spends much of his time in Kenya where is works as an executive with an Airline Services Provider. 


Hence since his purchase of the 911 he has added just 30,000 careful, summer driven kilometers to the car's odometer over his 12 years with the car. Purchased in 2014 at 36,900 miles, from a then renown sports/exotic dealer, out of Palm Beach Florida, the car has never seen winter or near any inclement weather. Always garage kept and winter stored this Carrera 4S shows little to no evidence of the normally seen wear and tear, common to a vehicle at this age. 


Pride of Ownership, Respectful Usage and Dedicated Maintenance tell the tale on this stunning example!


This purchase was a long time coming for Paul and he wanted one of the best examples  available and invested to get a no excuses piece, one of the nicest available back in 2014 and the car has for the past 12 years been his passion, something to drive and experience during his short visits back to his home in Canada. Time has moved on as it does for all of us and Paul has made the decision to close out this life chapter and move onto another adventure, making this uniquely special Porsche available to it's next lover! 


This is one of the now far too few, all too rarely available, 996 Carrera 4S Coupes that wonderfully to my mind, remains just as it left the factory. A Virtual factory virgin with near all its original factory equipment in place. No unnecessary modifications on this one as it is just the way Porsche built it.  And  yes,  the IMS  Bearing  has been  updated!

 

The car had clearly received lots of love and attention by Paull and it's former owner as it is still wearing what is believed to be most, if not all, of it's Original Factory Paint, along with its still immaculate Factory Interior. 


My good Lord she still looks great from every angle swathed in it's factory original PTS (Paint To Sample) Phoenix Yellow Metallic. 


Yes, of course, the car has been used, road driven, and no doubt on very close examination, some minor flaws in the original paintwork may well be found, but i think it is safe to say the car's cosmetics are as good as it gets in the real world. 


All said it is undeniably a very well-preserved example, with reportedly zero corrosion/rust past or present to be found, and you just have love these virtual  dry  climate cars that have remained garaged kept away from the potentially damaging local climate.


The car has a Pristine History from new, with no known past damage or accidents and an unblemished CarFax Report to back these statements up!


Since Paul’s  acquisition in 2014 he has shown the car some serious love, continuing to service the car regularly at Porsche and a few different local Porsche Specialist Garages. It is clear that Paul has never ignored the car's needs, having  investing heartily in it's continued care. This my friends is not always the reality, and not often the norm with many owners and their aging 911s!j
